Motorcycle Trip 2012 - Go West - "Yellowstone National Park"

Motorcycle Trip Blog Accounts

Let’s be sure to take the time to remember our Military personnel for their service to us and our country. Also remember to think of and pray for their families. Whenever you see a Veteran on the street stop, shake their hand and thank them for their service. God bless all of the men and women of our armed forces and pray that they all come home safe. Honor – Remember – Respect all Veterans Thank You

It's that time to get started on blogging about another motorcycle adventure. I'm enjoying reminiscing about our previous trips. This is my fifth blog and my hopes are to continue writing about all of my motorcycle adventures. RIDE ON and RIDE SAFE.

I am going to try and update this blog on a daily basis during our trip if time and Internet access permits so all my family and friends at home can see our trip as it progresses. Everyone be sure to check back often to see our motorcycle journey updates. I’m looking forward to my nephew Michael Jr. joining in on a trip. I hope he has an awesome time and really enjoys himself. But I am also sorry that the previous group of guys could not make the trip this year. I sure hope next year we will be able to get the BAND back together.

As it quickly approaches departure time it seems like I don't have anything ready to go. Starting to watch the future weather forecasts along our planned destination Michael contacted me today and informed me about Bear Tooth Highway. Here is what was posted on their website: ON THE ROAD Update 6/10/2012 - 8:29 am The Beartooth Highway is closed for travel. As of 8:30 am the Beartooth Highway remains closed due to winter-like weather conditions at higher elevations of the Highway. The Road will remain closed today unless weather improves significantly. We still have several days till we are finally in that area. Just hope everyone has warm clothing. BRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr especially at night. Hope everyone enjoys reading about our journey

6/15/12 Friday

Friday is finally here and my motorcycle and trailer are packed and ready to hit the road. After all the planning and hoping that the routes that I put together are going to be awesome rides. My brother Michael and my nephew Michael Jr. had a late departure from Calhoun, Tennessee this morning. I am anxiously awaiting theirs arrival at my house in Lockport, Illinois for the start of our 5th Annual Motorcycle Trip. I’m all be jacked up on an adrenalin rush waiting for our morning departure from my house to "Awesome Yellowstone National Park" can't wait. Eva got home from work and Eva, Samantha, Michael, Michael Jr. And an old high school friend of Michael's got together for some pizza and cold beverages that evening at Papa’s Pizza in Woodridge, Illinois. The food and service was wonderful like always. Thank you Sandy, Andrew, and the entire Papa’s staff.

6/16/12 Saturday

We departed from Lockport, this morning at about 6:45 a.m. We had overcast and temperatures around 75. We ran into on and off rain a good portion of the day. We made it to the Jackson, MN. KOA around 4:30 unpacked the trailer and went to Burgen’s bar & grille for dinner under the recommendations of the staff at the KOA. It was going to be a two hour wait unless we wanted to sit at the bar. That wasn’t a tough decision for us to make and that is what we choose to do. The place would probably only seat about 35 people total and it was constantly busy. It was the BEST hamburger that I have ever eaten. And `the food that the others had was said to be just as good.

6/17/2012 Sunday

We departed Jackson, MN. And was headed over to Rapid City, SD. We got into the campground around 4:00 and got settled in and went for a swim. We then went to Golden Coral for dinner. After dinner we went back to the campground. We went to Mount Rushmore for the night time presentation. What an awesome presentation. After that it was about 11:00 p.m. when we arrived back at camp. We hit the sack for the night.

6/18/12 Monday

We got up and departed the campground this morning after breakfast for a day trip. We rode the Badland National Park, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain, and Custer State Park. We arrived back at the campground around 3:30 p.m. We then went for a swim and the headed out for dinner. We had dinner at Firehouse Brewery in Rapid City. The restaurant was in one of the original Rapid City Firehouse.

6/19/12 Tuesday

We departed from camp and made our way to Sheridan, Wyoming. It was another good day of riding. We arrived at the Sheridan KOA around 4:45. We unloaded the trailers and then relax a bit before going out for dinner. We had dinner in Sheridan, Wyoming at a placed called Sanford’s Grub & Pub. The food was very good. We went back to camp after dinner and had couple of cold beverages before turning in for the night. Michael Jr. is doing well and I think he is enjoying himself.

Wednesday 6/20/12

We departed the Sheridan KOA and headed over towards Red Lodge, Montana KOA. When we left camp this morning the temperature was 58 degrees and as we proceeded towards Red Lodge, Montana we encounter temperatures as low as 33 degrees going over Big Horn Mountains. Thank goodness for heated gear. Tomorrow should be probably about the same as we embark upon a journey over Bear Tooth Pass. I hope everyone is enjoying reading my updates. We will be in Red Lodge for two day before departing for Yellowstone National Park.
